SWC

A tattooer since 1994 with an illustrative style of traditional background, I apprenticed to tattoo under Steve Gold who at the time had been tattooing for 25 yrs. or so in a circa 70′s biker style.  Moving forward in the spirit of the past my tattoos cohabiting with the direction of my painting, paintings that reflect all that was the foundation of my learning with some additional influences such as the romanticism of Gustave Dore, scientific, architectural/geometric and Baroque illustrations, an appreciation for the narrative story telling aspects of visual art with offshoots of deconvoluting convolution of similar process to what is beholden in us to “the great mystery” as the great mystery beholds us all in little pieces that given some distance and retrospect forms a bigger picture (I’m eluding to the science of nature not god) mythologizing our life in symbols, the jungian calendar of our particular interests.  Or simply making something look aesthetically pleasing within the boundaries of the respective medium- Tattooing, which has earned and warrants this awareness.

“When age fell upon the world, and wonder went out of the minds of men; when grey cities reared to smoky skies tall towers grim and ugly, in whose shadow none might dream of the sun or of Spring’s flowering meads; when learning stripped the Earth of her mantle of beauty and poets sang no more of twisted phantoms seen with bleared and inward looking eyes; when these things had come to pass, and childish hopes had gone forever, there was a man who traveled out of life on a quest into spaces whither the world’s dreams had fled.”

-H.P. Lovecraft
